I Did Not Know

I did not know how much I love you

Till I saw you shaving

Making faces in the mirror

Pushing your tongue to raise your lips

I did not know how much I love you

Till I saw your imperfect way of

wearing your shirt

With open buttons on it

Your off center tie,

your zipper half way down

And your hair almost always half combed

I did not know how much I love you imperfectly

But love is not always perfect

And I live with you so imperfectly everyday

……..

Valentine

If I tell you, you are like a pulse of life

Floating in my breath

And your presence is an eternal serenity

If I tell you that your smile is

The light and luminosity of moonlight

Have I said enough

If the cup of coffee that I place

Next to your breakfast table

And if our supper with a shared glass of wine

And the meal we cooked together

And the basket of jasmines and tarragon

We picked from the garden together are

Not enough what more can I say
