Hey Ashraf/یا اشرف/ A poem for Ashraf Fayadh by Mahnaz Badihian
Hey Ashraf
Tell me what was the child of
Mahmud Darwish doing in the land
of backward tyrants and criminals
of Saudi Kings with their Sharia laws
with their brains and hearts poisoned
with the stench of money and oil!
with their hate for civilization
and a dagger for progressive minds
What were you doing away from
the smell of bread in Mahmud Darwish’s
poem of ” Mother” ?
you were not aware of their hate
for freedom of speech and human rights
is that why you stepped into fire?!
Ashraf you gave your soul
to the dark side of history
now your voice is trapped
in your heart and all your
new poems are homeless beauties!
look out from your window in jail
for the sun to rise and hear the voice
of the poets calling your name
from around the world
….
