That old brick house hosted<\/p>\n

three generations:<\/p>\n

grandmother, mother, me<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My favorite corner was<\/p>\n

an open space living-room<\/p>\n

with 3 tall walls and \u00a0<\/p>\n

a dome-shaped ceiling<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The third wall had a door<\/p>\n

to grandmother\u2019s bedroom<\/p>\n

covered by a wooden door\u00a0<\/p>\n

low enough so that she could<\/p>\n

open it while sitting on velvet<\/p>\n

mattresses laid on the ground<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In one corner of the living room<\/p>\n

there was an old red rug,<\/p>\n

a pale, purple sitting pillow<\/p>\n

that always looked like<\/p>\n

grandmother sat on it<\/p>\n

moments ago and still held<\/p>\n

the shape of her body<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During that\u00a0 summer<\/p>\n

she would walk graciously<\/p>\n

to other end of the house<\/p>\n

to pick up a freshly laid egg<\/p>\n

from the chicken coops<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every morning she started<\/p>\n

her \u201cmanghal\u201d with a few pieces<\/p>\n

of dry wood and coal,<\/p>\n

where she made a pot of hot tea<\/p>\n

and roasted an egg in its shell<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now after decades,<\/p>\n

I think of her,<\/p>\n

imagining that house<\/p>\n

with an orchestra of grandmother\u2019s<\/p>\n

movements and voice,<\/p>\n

in still moments of memory<\/p>\n

exactly at a moment she<\/p>\n

opens the chicken coop<\/p>\n

and lets them free in the garden<\/p>\n

the moment she pours tea<\/p>\n

in fenjoon<\/em> and picked up an egg from<\/p>\n

manghal<\/em>, with some ash on it<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Eternal aroma of toasted egg<\/p>\n

fresh bread, freshly brewed tea<\/p>\n

with a few pieces of rock sugar \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

kindness and love<\/p>\n

on grandmother’s \u00a0face,<\/p>\n

are lifelong delicacies!<\/p>\n

Isn’t that all you need<\/p>\n

to become a poet?<\/p>\n
