(English) and Mahnaz Badihian (Farsi).

13th Century Persian Jelaluddin Rumi (Persian: جلال‌الدین محمد رومی‎), was an

Islamic scholar, theologian, jurist, poet and Sufi mystic. It is his poetry

of love, divinity and loss that has endured over the centuries.

Eight hundred years later, he is still considered the most popular and

best selling poet in America, and perhaps the world.

Coleman Barks is an internationally recognized interpreter of the works

of Rumi. Mr. Barks work has helped continue the strong following of Rumi

in the English-speaking world. Interestingly, Mr. Barks neither speaks, nor

reads Persian. His “translations” are therefore technically paraphrases.

His work with Rumi was the subject of an hour-long segment in Bill

Moyer’s Language of Life series on PBS.

Jack Hirschman is the emeritus Poet Laureate of San Francisco. He’s

also one of the founding members of the World Poetry Movement,

centered in Medellin, Columbia and a founding member of the

Revolutionary Poets Brigade. On any given day, you will find Mr.

Hirschman traveling around the world, giving poetry a public

performance in nine languages.

Mahnaz Badihian is an American poet from Iran. For many years, she

worked as a dentist, but now uses her poetry to bridge the gap between

western and eastern cultures. She currently runs a multilingual (Persian,

English & Italian) online magazine, Mahmag, as an outlet for Iranian and

American poets.
