{"id":492,"date":"2010-03-15T15:00:16","date_gmt":"2010-03-15T15:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mahmag.org\/nucleus-import\/?p=492"},"modified":"2010-03-15T15:00:16","modified_gmt":"2010-03-15T15:00:16","slug":"poem-by-bhuwan-thapaliya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mahmag.org\/archive-english\/poem-by-bhuwan-thapaliya\/","title":{"rendered":"poem by Bhuwan Thapaliya"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"rightbox\"><img src='https:\/\/mahmag.org\/nucleus-import\/media\/7\/20100315-Bhuwan.JPG' width='118' height='187' alt='null' \/><\/div>\n<p>\n<b>Suppression, I accept not<\/b><br \/>\n<i>by Bhuwan Thapaliya<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I came <br \/>\ninto this world <br \/>\nnot like the river <br \/>\nbut like a drop of water <br \/>\nand will soon evaporate <!--more-->I came <br \/>\ninto this world <br \/>\nnot like the river <br \/>\nbut like a drop of water <br \/>\nand will soon evaporate <\/p>\n<p>Though, <br \/>\nI am only <br \/>\na drop of water <br \/>\nin the majestic ocean <br \/>\nof nature <\/p>\n<p>I yearn <br \/>\nto create <br \/>\na vigorous ripple <br \/>\nof freedom, <br \/>\nin the eternity of the water <\/p>\n<p>For I am a man <br \/>\nof eternal freedom, <br \/>\nand suppression <br \/>\nI accept not &#8230; <br \/>\nI will not accept it <\/p>\n<p>The living God <br \/>\nwithin me urges <br \/>\nme to be free, and to <br \/>\nmarch on the road <br \/>\nof freedom sans any dread <\/p>\n<p>My heart,<br \/>\nlike Einstein, <br \/>\nthinks in another dimension <br \/>\nunknown and unknowable &#8230; <br \/>\neven to my own mind <\/p>\n<p>And like Goethe,  <br \/>\nlooks at things <br \/>\nin a different manner, <br \/>\ndifferent than those thinkers <br \/>\nbestowed with pristine minds <\/p>\n<p>Freedom, <br \/>\nthe gift of God, <br \/>\nis the inherent right <br \/>\nof every individual <br \/>\nin this compressed world <\/p>\n<p>I will fight <br \/>\ntill the end <br \/>\nto free the masses <br \/>\nfrom the grip of suppression <br \/>\nand ignite the lamp of freedom <\/p>\n<p>I will free the masses <br \/>\nor die in the attempt <br \/>\nbut I will never <br \/>\nlive to see <br \/>\nthe naked dance of repression <\/p>\n<p>I am not afraid <br \/>\nof those suppressors, <br \/>\nnor am I afraid of the death <br \/>\nthat they are planning for me; <br \/>\nthey can kill me but not freedom forever <\/p>\n<p>My blood boils <br \/>\nwhenever I see the strong ones <br \/>\npulverising the lean, and my heart cries <br \/>\nwhenever I see the starving pauper <br \/>\nin the abattoir of the prosperous butcher <\/p>\n<p>For me <br \/>\na red rose is a red rose <br \/>\nit is not white <br \/>\njust because they call it white <br \/>\nto disguise the ignorant <\/p>\n<p>They can <br \/>\nconquer Everest <br \/>\nbut not my spirit <br \/>\nthey can stagnate the river <br \/>\nbut not my impetus <\/p>\n<p>They can <br \/>\ntake my <br \/>\nsight away <br \/>\nbut not <br \/>\nmy vision of freedom <\/p>\n<p>They can <br \/>\ncut my <br \/>\ntongue into pieces <br \/>\nbut not <br \/>\nmy voice of freedom <\/p>\n<p>They can <br \/>\nstab me with the <br \/>\ndagger of despotism <br \/>\nbut not impede <br \/>\nthe blood of freedom <\/p>\n<p>I know <br \/>\nthe road to freedom <br \/>\nis blocked with obstacles <br \/>\nbut obstacles cause no despair <br \/>\nif they are encountered with hope <\/p>\n<p>We must act now <br \/>\nand not merely <br \/>\njust look away <br \/>\nwhen our freedom <br \/>\nis threatened from within <\/p>\n<p>Because  <br \/>\nit is better <br \/>\nto perish without freedom <br \/>\nthan to have a yearn for freedom <br \/>\nbut not the valour to harvest it <\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be a coward &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Be prepared to receive <br \/>\nbullets to your chest <br \/>\nbecause, in the struggle <br \/>\nof freedom, tolerance <br \/>\nof suppression is an offence <\/p>\n<p>Stand up &#8230; stand up <\/p>\n<p>Gather your courage. Come out <br \/>\ninto the field; let\u2019s march hand in <br \/>\nhand together, right beneath the <br \/>\nnose of the suppressors, for the <br \/>\nemancipation of our freedom <\/p>\n<p>Let us not forget that &#8230; <\/p>\n<p>The ocean is composed of drops <br \/>\nof water, and all drops possess <br \/>\nequal potentials, but only, when <br \/>\nthey mix with other drops do <br \/>\nthey form a powerful bond <\/p>\n<p>So &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Listen, my oppressed brothers <br \/>\nlisten, my trodden sisters <br \/>\nlisten &#8230; listen <br \/>\nto the natural desire <br \/>\nof your ceaseless soul <\/p>\n<p>Do not fear <br \/>\ntrust your soul <br \/>\nand march ahead <br \/>\nwith a resolute heart <br \/>\nfor the better tomorrow <\/p>\n<p>And scatter <br \/>\nthe seeds of freedom, <br \/>\nwhere does it go? <br \/>\nit does not matter <br \/>\nscatter it more with hope <\/p>\n<p>Welcome the freedom <br \/>\nwelcome it today <br \/>\nand enjoy it evermore <br \/>\nbut do not use your freedom <br \/>\nto suppress the people\u2019s soul <br \/>\nto suppress the people\u2019s soul<\/p>\n<p>copyright 2010 Bhuwan Thapaliya<\/p>\n<p>\n<i>Bhuwan Thapaliya was born in Kathmandu in 1976, and is one of the most widely read Nepali poet writing in English in the West today.
