\n Dear colleagues and friends,
\n I have been informed of the shocking news that a decree has been passed by the
\nItalian Council of Ministers to shut down the famous Istituto Italiano per
\nl\u2019Africa e l\u2019Oriente (IsIAO). It is inconceivable that such an
\nextraordinary institution which has been active during the past 100 years in
\npromoting a knowledge of
\nIran , India ,
\nAfghanistan , the Far East, and recently
\nalso
\nAfrica with amazing success should be abolished.
\n Professor Giuseppe Tucci and his successor Professor Gherardo Gnoli have done
\nwonders in spreading the knowledge of Iranian lands, their archaeology, their
\nhistory and their culture. To deprive the Iranian Studies from the services
\nand contributions of this marvelous institution is a severe blow to the
\npromotion of the knowledge of
\nIran on the international scene. Professor Tosi has sent an email requesting all supporters of Iranian studies
\nto sign a letter written to the President of the
\nItalian
\nRepublic to support
\nthe continuation of IsIAO. Please by all means add your signature to this
\nletter and encourage your friends and colleagues to do so as well. To add your signature please visit
