{"id":200,"date":"2006-10-26T19:17:51","date_gmt":"2006-10-26T19:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mahmag.org\/nucleus-import\/?p=200"},"modified":"2006-10-26T19:17:51","modified_gmt":"2006-10-26T19:17:51","slug":"my-heart-carries-no-shield-by-andres-alfaro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mahmag.org\/archive-english\/my-heart-carries-no-shield-by-andres-alfaro\/","title":{"rendered":"My Heart Carries No Shield by  Andr\u00e9s Alfaro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Heart Carries No Shield<\/p>\n<p>My heart was forged in the fires created between two lovers<br \/>\nIt grew and palpitated with desire through my childhood <br \/>\nand was nurtured by the gardens of my parents.<br \/>\nToday it pumps life through these young veins<br \/>\nBringing sustenance and happiness to every cell and pore.<br \/>\nNo shield protects the castle walls of this heart, <br \/>\nwhich is forever prone to the attacks of the cannons <br \/>\nof Love.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rightbox\"><img src='https:\/\/mahmag.org\/nucleus-import\/media\/7\/20061116-andy-car.jpg' width='160' height='120' alt='andres alfaro' \/><\/div>\n<p> <!--more-->DOMESTIC TIDINGS <\/p>\n<p>Her frustrated face is filling with angst  <br \/>\nAs boy climbs higher through the depths of space <br \/>\nHer hands trembled hard while her feet contended <br \/>\nAgainst her body, her mind tormented. <\/p>\n<p>\nBlood soaked carpet traces the clues <br \/>\nOf domestic tidings inside baby shoes  <br \/>\nHis body is numb as the ringing of metal <br \/>\nResounds through the room like whistling tea kettle. <\/p>\n<p>New born baby is gasping for breath <br \/>\nAs seven days of life turn to seven days of death <br \/>\nNew born mother is crouching in corner  <br \/>\nWhile new born daddy barks out his first order. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nothing has passed, no one is broken <br \/>\nMaybe she was defective like some tin can coffin <br \/>\nDon&#8217;t you believe what your eyes tell your heart <br \/>\nWe can get the fuck from here and have a new start&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>But eyes flash from him toward her former treasure <br \/>\nThe only thing left that had given her any pleasure <br \/>\nNow tears flow free like whiskey from broken bottle <br \/>\nAs her crimson face melts into her crimson sorrow. <\/p>\n<p>A universe once constructed on his sweetest loving <br \/>\nHis smile, his warmth were brightly reflecting <br \/>\nThe shadowy demons that lay in him dormant <br \/>\nLike a watery reflection that animates without warning. <\/p>\n<p>A mixture of contempt and problems with money  <br \/>\nHad pushed him toward searching for solace in honey <br \/>\nA sweetness that dulled all screams from his wife <br \/>\nShe watched him break glass and then plunge the knife. <\/p>\n<p>\nColic bursts of noise swirl into agony <br \/>\nAs Daddy falls backward, dragged down by Mommy <br \/>\nTime turns to stone as three turns to two <br \/>\nSilence ensues as air turns to glue.  <\/p>\n<p>Colorless neighbors have ears pressed to wall <br \/>\nWhispering, &#8220;Those niggers have sure got some gall&#8221; <br \/>\nQuickly they call cops to their building <br \/>\nKnowing that violence &#8216;tween blacks would be kindling <\/p>\n<p>For fire! For fire! the media would rave <br \/>\nIn face of black violence now whites must be brave <br \/>\nThe proof&#8217;s in the pudding! the media would rally <br \/>\nJust look at the prisons! Just look at the tally! <\/p>\n<p>But that would be future, so wind back to now  <br \/>\nWhere the only word uttered by Mommy is, &#8220;How?&#8221; <br \/>\nDaddy is throwing his few things in bag <br \/>\nInsisting that fleeing leaves no time to lag <\/p>\n<p>But right as he paces swiftly toward door <br \/>\nPolice enter quickly and knock him to floor  <br \/>\nStupor has changed suddenly for Mommy <br \/>\nShe yearns for her sugar, which came from her body. <\/p>\n<p>Neighbors eye hall as sirens are blaring <br \/>\nThere couldn&#8217;t exist people less caring <br \/>\nMeanwhile Mommy has managed to grip  <br \/>\nKnife of cold steel from which crimson would drip. <\/p>\n<p>Praying to God that she&#8217;d be united <br \/>\nOnce more with baby, she slowly recited <br \/>\n&#8220;May God show me mercy by giving me power <br \/>\nTo fuse me once more with my precious flower&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>And having said this she clenched her face fierce  <br \/>\nThe spectators watched as she started to pierce<\/p>\n<p>Organs once vital to ushering in new life <br \/>\nAre now being mangled by long, serrated knife.<\/p>\n<p>Andr\u00e9s Alfaro<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My Heart Carries No Shield My heart was forged in the fires created between two lovers It grew and palpitated with desire through my childhood and was nurtured by the gardens of my parents.
